The Clark University Strassler Family Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies will present “Ancient Civilization and Modern Statecraft: Armenia at the Crossroads,” by RAFFI HOVANNISIAN, founding director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) in Yerevan, Armenia. The lecture will take place on Thursday, March 15th at 7:30 p.m. in Room 320 of the Jefferson Academic Center, 950 Main Street.
In his lecture, Mr. Hovannisian will assess the next phase of Armenia’s development, which he holds is to rediscover its role as a member of the family of nations while striving to unite the vast political, economic, cultural, and intellectual potential of Armenians throughout the world.

Frank Zerunyan, 47, of Rolling Hills Estates, has been appointed to the Division of Medical Quality on the Medical Board of California. Since 2005, he has served as principal and general counsel for the real estate development firm, Public Private Community Development. Zerunyan previously was managing partner with the law firms SulmeyerKupetz from 1995 to 2005, Yacoubian & Zerunyan from 1992 to 1995 and the Law Office of Frank V. Zerunyan from 1989 to 1992. Prior to that, he served as vice president of finance for International Marketing Alliance from 1985 to 1989. He serves on the Rolling Hills Estates City Council, where he was elected in 2003 and serves as chair of the City's Traffic and Safety Committee. This position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Zerunyan is a Republican.
Former California Supreme Court Justice Armand Arabian received the 2006 Fernando Award at a ceremony honoring him with the San Fernando Valley's highest honor for volunteerism. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced the award. Arabian will be feted at a dinner on March 2, 2007 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, Rooftop Garden Ballroom.

ALBERT ABKARIAN, 42, of Glendale, has been appointed to the Osteopathic Medical Board by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The American University of Armenia Department of Law, on the occasion of Constitution Day of Armenia, hosted a panel discussion celebrating Mkhitar Gosh and his Legacy of Law in Armenia, entitled “Lessons from Mkhitar Gosh: 800 Years of Legal Tradition.”
Panel participants included Armen Bar member, TOM SAMUELIAN (Dean, AUA Law Department), who presented Mkhitar Gosh as a legal pragmatist. Tom Samuelian, J.D., Ph.D., is currently Dean of the AUA Department of Law. BRUCE JANIGIAN, J.D., Esq., LL.M., also a member of the Armenian Bar, formerly held the position of Law Department Dean and is currently AUA's VP for Development and Government Relations.

On the evening of March 27, 2006, ArmenBar member Christopher P. Parnagian and his wife Lisa co-hosted a fundraising reception in their NYC apartment for the U.S. Congressman John E. Sweeney (NY). Cong. Sweeney is one of only two Armenian-American members of Congress and sits on the House Appropriations Committee. The reception was well-attended and included, in addition to Cong. Sweeney and his spouse and daughter, prestigious members of the Armenian community.
HARRY DIKRANIAN received a stunning victory last December before the
Supreme Court of Canada in a class action case where Mr. Dikranian is plaintiff and class representative with his law firm as class counsel. This class action represents approximately $40 million and
135,000 members. The case dealt with the attempt by the Quebec government to abrogate a six month interest exemption period on student loans after the end of a student's studies in spite of signed

For the 39th consecutive year, the California Contract Cities Association traveled to Sacremento on January 9-11, 2006 to meet with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senate and Assembly Leadership. The 125 member delegation of the Annual Sacremento Legislative Team was led by Legislative Committee Chairman and Armenian Bar Association Vice Chair FRANK ZERUNYAN.
