Los Angeles, California–The first annual “Hall of Fame” night presented by the Italian American Bar Association turned out to be a multicultural affair, as several ArmenBar members joined their Italian brethren in honoring three outstanding individuals. Over 300 people packed the Casa Italiana restaurant near the Chinatown area of Downtown Los Angeles to honor US District Judge George P. Schiavelli, preeminent trial lawyer Thomas V. Girardi and judicial campaign consultant Joseph R. Cerrell. The event was cosponsored by the Armenian Bar and other Bar Associations.
ArmenBar members on hand included Armand Arabian, Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court (retired), Federal Magistrate Jacqueline Chooljian, Los Angeles Superior Court Judges Ronald Sohigian and Zaven Sinanian, as well as Executive Director Betty Jamgotchian and former Chairmen Armen Hovannisian and Vicken Simonian.
“We support our brothers and sisters of Italian descent and always promote coordinated participation with other Bar Association functions,” said Jamgotchian. “Many present this evening have attended and supported our organization, and we believe it is important to show our support for them as well,” she said.
Girardi was a guest speaker at the ArmenBar’s Annual Meeting banquet at the Brandview Collection in Glendale, California in 2003. He has received many honors over the years, including being a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. In addition, he has had many multimillion dollars verdicts and settlements during his career.
Judge Schiavelli was appointed to the Federal bench in 2004. He previously served as a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge from 1994 to 2000. He has had a distinguished career as an attorney and judge and offered inspiring words to those present.
“We will continue to support other ethnic Bar Associations by participating in their events, with the goal of combining forces for the good of the legal community,” said Jamgotchian.
