The Armenian Bar Association cordially invites you to an evening CLE seminar on starting up a business in the US and Armenia, from setting up to managing the growth of a small or mid-sized company. Attendees shall receive one and a half hours of CLE credit. This event is co-hosted with the Armenian American Chamber of Commerce and will include a special presentation of the Hamo Sahyan Award by the Hamo Sahyan Scientific-Cultural Center to Vardges Yeghiaian, Esq.

The Armenian Bar Association is committed to providing its members and the professional community at large a series of educational and high caliber events. Our March 2010 Professional Networking Evening had approximately 300 attorneys, judges and business professionals in attendance. The June 2010 Dinner Reception honoring City of Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian and LA County Sheriff Lee Baca was attended by over 150 legal professionals and community leaders.

The upcoming September 9, 2010 CLE seminar will host two distinguished speakers - Ara Babaian, a partner at Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP, who will discuss how to set up and manage a small or mid-sized company, and Al Eisaian, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of Integrien Corporation and President, CEO and Co-Founder of IconApps, Inc, who will discuss starting up businesses in the U.S. and Armenia from an entrepreneur's perspective. Over 150 legal and business professionals are expected in attendance along with distinguished community leaders.

Starting a new business and managing the growth of a small or mid-sized company.

Presenter: Ara Babaian, Esq.

Partner, Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP

Ara Babaian is a Partner in the Business and Corporate Law Department of Ervin Cohen & Jessup LLP. Mr. Babaian advises individuals and companies in all areas of business and contract law—from the formation of a company to its financing and management—as well as business sales, mergers and acquisitions, loan transactions, contract drafting/negotiation, and ‘34 Act and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. He also handles intellectual property matters, executive compensation, buy-sell agreements, and confidentiality agreements.

A graduate of UC, Berkeley, Mr. Babaian double majored in English literature and molecular/cell biology and minored in creative writing. He received his law degree from Loyola Law School in 2001. While at Loyola, Mr. Babaian served as Symposium Editor of the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. He also served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Margaret M. Morrow in the U.S. District Court, District of California.

Mr. Babaian has authored articles, including “Preparing Your Business for a Major Transaction: Seven Key Issues to Consider,” published in The Directive(2009); ”Delaware High Court Holds ‘Quasi-California Corporation’ Statute Violates Delaware’s Internal Affairs Doctrine,” published in Andrews Delaware Corporate Litigation Reporter (2005); “How the Sarbanes-Oxley Act Fits into Your Company’s Growth,” published in the Los Angeles Business Journal (2005); and “Striving for Perfection: The Reform Proposals for Copyright-Secured Financing,” published in the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review (2000).

Mr. Babaian serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Gay & Lesbian Elder Housing Corporation. In his pro bono representation, Mr. Babaian has handled numerous adoptions through the Alliance for Children’s Rights Foster Child Adoption Program and has represented various non-profit organizations, including FirstHigh Alumni Association, the West Hollywood Recovery Center, the Armenian Center for the Arts, and the Genocide Project. He also has mentored law students through the Loyola Alumni Mentor Program and the Armenian Bar Association Mentorship Program. Mr. Babaian is fluent in Armenian.

Mr. Babaian is a member of the California State Bar Association and the Armenian Bar Association, where he served as chairperson of the CLE Committee.

Starting a business in the US and in Armenia from the entrepreneur's perspective

Presenter: Al Eisaian

Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Integrien Corporation

President, CEO and Co-Founder, IconApps, Inc.

Prior to co-founding Integrien, Al was Senior Vice President and General Manager at LowerMyBills where he led the business strategy and growth of the company from startup to profitability in 16 months (LowerMyBills was subsequently purchased by Experian for $380 million). Before joining LowerMyBills, Al was an associate partner at USWeb/CKS, and director of business development at LaunchPad. At USWeb/CKS, Al coordinated strategic partnerships and was Engagement Lead for Toshiba, Ingram Micro, and iGeneration among others. At Launchpad, Al was part of the start-up team for eWallet, which was later sold to Infogate. Al was also a business unit manager with full profit and loss responsibility for a $58 million division for NMB Technologies, where he grew sales from $15 million to $58 million in three years. Al earned an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University and a BSEE from Oklahoma State University.
